Making Connections
This summer was actually the first time I started to use an RSS feeder. However, I have to admit since school started I really haven’t been going to it that much. After skimming and clicking for a while, I realize again, what amazing information, opportunities and ideas are out there. I have forgotten what an amazing learning environment is right at our fingertips.
For instance I just got a great website that has interactive resources. For example, you can put a sentence up there. The program mixes it up and the kids could go to the board and place the words in the correct order. It is called Word Magnet. They say that “Word Magnets will take a piece of text and break it into individual magnets which can be moved around the screen”. It is a very nice tool. In addition, if you click on resources they have some other great ones like spinners and graphic organizers too that you can use with an IWB (Interactive White Board).
Rss feeds are very useful. They can also be addicting. As I was doing this activity, I found myself straying into different areas and exploring many more websites. Therefore, getting on task to write this blog was not coming into the lime light as quickly as I would have liked. However, learning, exploring and synthesizing were coming to the forefront. Therefore, let’s look at the possibilities that our students could have if they were to use an aggragator. Think of the skills they would need and use while doing this type of activity. Of course, a teacher could make it more structured for those who need structure in their lives or you could just ask them to blog about their skimming events and read “current events” through the eyes of the common writer.
